2023 saw an amazing race - Ferrari took a surprise victory at the 100th centenary race with a line up which included Englishman James Calado, together with Alessandro Pier Guidi and ex F1 driver Antonio Giovinazzi. The 33 year old was part of line up that beat overwhelming favourites Toyota in a year that saw several major car manufacturers return.
Ferrari were competing as a top level works team for the first time in over 50 years; 2023 saw Ferrari take their 10th top level Le Mans win - 58 years after their last victory.
Sportscar racing has seen several manufacturers return to the sport following the introduction of new hypercar rules which allow for a broader design brief than other series, leading to Ferrari, Peugeot, Porsche and Cadillac producing an array of different looking cars.
The 2023 race was the best in years with several early crashes and some heavy rain showers shuffling up the field and as the race entered the night, the Ferrari began to show unexpected speed and consistency. After hours of running within seconds on one another, the Toyota GR10 spun towards the end of the race at the Arnage corner and Ferrari held on - with a nail biting hiccup in the pits a few minutes from the chequered flag.
General Motors' entry Cadillac finished third with a driver line-up that included England's Richard Westbrook and Alex Lynn.

Le Mans Circuit Access
The new Le Mans tramway opened in November 2007 and has made a huge difference to the amount of traffic in and around the circuit. The tramway provides a convenient, inexpensive means to access the circuit, terminating at Antares in the circuit. The majority of our Le Mans hotels are within walking distance of a tramway stop. Within our hotel descriptions, we offer our recommendation for the easiest access to the circuit.
A day ticket on the tram is 4.20 euros per person (valid 24 hours) Tickets are valid for both tram and bus. You can buy tickets on a bus, at the main depot at 65 avenue du Generale de Gaulle or at the automatic machines at each tramway station. Or, you can buy 10 passes for 13.40 euros at most bar / tabac outlets. Inside the circuit, the ACO operate a number of free shuttle trains around the circuit.
Le Mans Restaurants
Before the race on the Friday - or after the race on the Sunday night - good dining can be very difficult to find. If you are looking for an elegant way to finish your Le Mans experience, look no further than our Auberge, which is ideally located in Arnage, close to our hotels and the circuit.
Since 1962, the family Souffront have been serving superb gourmet cuisine from their restaurant which offers a beautiful parkland view. The Auberge is one of the oldest restaurants around Le Mans. The gourmet menu consists of two starters, a main course, cheese plate and dessert. For each course, there is a choice of two or three dishes.
